Every morning, as the sun peaks from behind the Topatopa mountains, we walk the orchard. Using a special fruit knife, we cut the fruit for a taste test. We’re fussy when we harvest for you. The fruit must be perfect, juicy, and luscious. 

That’s because when it gets to you, its sharp and zesty scent must rush towards your nose, making your mouth water in anticipation.

As your personal grove, we harvest the best fruit from the best trees. Yes, the taste and even the aroma of citrus varies from tree to tree. Even the placement of the fruit itself on the individual tree matters.  Fruit at the top of a tree is sweeter than ground fruit. Outside fruit is sweeter than inside fruit. And citrus growing on the south side of the tree is the sweetest. 

And it is these sun-kissed darlings that we harvest for you: our “Paradise Grade” citrus. 

For fruit to be “Paradise Grade,” it must match our exacting standards for natural sweetness, juicy lusciousness, color, size, and even the thickness of its peel. Only ten to fifteen percent of the entire crop will qualify as “Paradise Grade”; the rest will be transformed into glistening marmalade.

The secret to our incredible citrus is Ojai Valley’s microclimate. For citrus to be sweet and luscious, a tree must fight to survive. Winters must border on freezing, and summers sun-soaked and hot. Give a citrus tree moderate temperatures and ample water? You’ll get bland fruit: little sugar, poor coloring, and not enough acid.

Our trees withstand near-freezing temperatures in the winter. The chill gives the fruit a surprising reaction: a golden hue and acidic zest (Vitamin C). The summer’s three-digit heat fills them with sugar. The result is fruit from paradise: juicy, sweet, and flavorful.

Finally, everything is about timing. We don’t harvest because of unrealistic sales calendars set by retail stores. We observe our trees, waiting for nature to tell us if your fruit is at peak sweetness. It’s this patience that makes the final difference. 

The result is that you get unmatched freshness: fruit picked from our trees and delivered to you within days. Store-bought citrus may be stored for days, even weeks, before reaching consumers. Perfectly packaged by nature, our fruit is fresh with no preservatives, additives, waxes, or GMOs. 

With only a fraction of our harvest being “Paradise Grade”, fruit of this quality comes in short supply. We started Citrus Club to control production and maintain our high standards. And that means our membership is limited to 1000 members every season.
